Officials with the Bainbridge Island Fire Department will host a ceremonial groundbreaking for the agency’s new Fire Station 21 later this week.

The groundbreaking is planned for 5 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

The department’s board of commissioners will join FORMA Construction and Mackenzie Architect for the big event at 8895 Madison Ave. The ceremony will mark the beginning of construction for the new, approximately 27,000-square-foot fire station.

Construction is expected to be completed in May 2018.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
