Mike Nance grabs the front end of a pickup load of invasive English ivy with his rake as volunteer John Van Dem Meerendonk helps empty the load Sunday at the Vincent Road Transfer Station.
The drop-off was the second, so far, for Nance, who was using a rented U-Haul pickup to bring another of what was expected to be multiple trips of a pile of nasty invasives he’d collected on his 2-acre property.
“I thought you were going to bring us a lighter load this time,” joked Wayne Roth, a fellow volunteer unloading the green debris at the transfer station.
The Bainbridge Island Land Trust, for three years now, has sponsored the free disposal drop-off of invasive plants each April.
It continues this year, on every Sunday this month.
Disposal costs are covered by the land trust, Let’s Pull Together, the Bainbridge Community Foundation, and the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Program.
