“A single person is missing for you, and the whole world is empty”
– Joan Didion
Elizabeth (Liza) Mary Thompson, of Bainbridge Island WA, passed away of Cardiovascular Disease on January 19, 2022. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Liza grew up in Los Angeles, California, and cherished memories of playing tennis at Plummer Park. Although she faced challenges in life, this never stopped her from caring deeply about those around her. Her true passion was getting to know people and understanding their stories. She was a self-taught handywoman, a consummate baker (who made fresh cornbread for her chickens every morning), and an adept seamstress. She is remembered for her love of animals, her irreverent sense of humor, and a love for mango lassis.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter Madeleine, her mother Patricia, her brothers Martin (Lora), Dean (Asako), and Richard (Abigail Hamilton) Thompson; her sister Cheryl (Dan) Perrett; and 11 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Shawn LaPlante, her sister Laura Thompson, and her father Richard H. Thompson.
According to her wishes, she will be freed into the ocean, where she can swim with the Orcas indefinitely.
