Five gymnasts from the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks & Recreation District boys club team have qualified for the Region 2 Championships April 8-10 in Pocatello, Idaho.
The gymnasts are: Liam Ruddick, Lafe Weighall, Isaac Werner, Jacob Hall and Owen Scheer.
The BIGC team consists of 12 gymnasts ages 7-17.
At a recent meet in Kent, Hall and Scheer competed in the Level 9 session with Hall placing third in the all-around, winning the pommel with a 10.4 score. Scheer was second in the high bar and fifth in the all-around.
Werner placed third in the pommel and fifth in the all-around in his classification.
Teammate Ari Mielbrecht-Hansen placed first in the high bar in his classification with a score of 9.8.
Will Lewis won the all-around in his class with a score of 56.
In another classification, Quinn Scheer was first in the rings and third in the all-around.
Other locals: Henry Hoecker, third in the parallel bars; Theo Cheung, third in the vault; Cruise Catton, fifth in the rings; Ruddick, second on the vault; Weighall, second on the high bar; and Miguel Guillen, second in the high bar.
The team then competed in the state meet at Everett Community College.
Werner placed first in the high bar with a score of 10.4.
Hall was second in the all-around with Owen Scheer fifth. They tied for first place on the pommel, each earning a 10.9.
Cattone won gold on the high bar with a score of 8.7. Cheung won the vault with a 9.4. Quinn Scheer tied for second on the rings.
Ruddick’s top performance was his floor routine, earning second place. Weighall’s top event was parallel bars, placing fifth.
