The Bainbridge Island City Council will discuss marijuana again at this week’s meeting.

After a public hearing last week that resulted in the approval of more temporary regulations, the council will now consider a timeline for establishing permanent regulations.

Last week’s meeting left the city with marijuana regulations with an automatic repeal date of Nov. 12, at which time the council said they would reopen the discussion.

The ordinance limits marijuana retail to the neighborhood service centers Rolling Bay, Lynwood Center and Island Center. It regulates marijuana growing operations to indoor facilities at the business/industrial district on Day Road. There, growers will also be required to generate 50 percent of their energy usage from renewable energy.

Marijuana processing will likewise be placed at the business/industrial district on Day Road, while collective gardens will be banned citywide.

During Monday’s meeting, the council will consider a strategy for addressing the concerns of the community, the Liquor Control Board and recreational marijuana businesses.

Permanent regulations will continue to develop over the next six months.

The city council will discuss marijuana regulations around 8:45 p.m. during the “council discussion” portion of the agenda.
