Protect Winslow
To the editor:
I am tired of growth without consideration for those who live in the town core. The push for higher density should be shared throughout to protect the island as well as Winslow.
The argument for existing public transit is not a valid reason for overgrowth. Public transportation will need wiggle room for growth as well. Further traffic revisions, roundabouts and discussion of one-way streets will not address transit issues and added foot and car traffic with limited directional throughways. And, by the way, Erickson as a non-throughway exception is absurd; that alone should invalidate any discussion of changing Lovell and Grow to one-way streets.
Change is inevitable. Concentrating so much growth in one small corridor is unrealistic. Growth can be balanced when planned for and properly developed. I can only conclude that completed and ongoing Winslow growth only serves to remind the rest of the island community what they don’t want. Lucky you.

Wrong on girls
To the editor:
Your opinion piece by John Micek titled “Banning transgender athletes from girls sports is cruel” was misinformed. The truth is not banning transgender athletes from girls’ sports is cruel. It is cruel to all biological girls who work hard to compete legitimately. And quoting the trans girl Lily Freeman as saying, “People in power are stripping away the definition of what it means to be a woman” shows how absurd this has all become.
What is a woman, as the recent Supreme Court nominee was asked? She wouldn’t answer — she said she was not a biologist. I am a biologist. We know that a woman is a genetic outcome that occurs at reproduction. Gender definition, in contrast, as the term is widely used today is a social construct — it is fluid.
Bruce Jenner, aka Caitlyn Jenner, who won the gold medal in the Olympic decathlon in 1976 as a man, was declared to be the greatest athlete in the world at the time. Jenner is now known now as a trans female. Can you imagine if someone of such talent today wanted to compete as a female?
This has all become absurd. Former President Obama spoke out this week about the danger of misinformation in media. By printing this opinion piece like this, your paper is spreading misinformation.
