Candidate filings for the primary election on Aug. 2 were registered last week with the Kitsap County Auditor’s Elections Division.

Incumbent Derek Kilmer of Gig Harbor, a Democrat, is seeking re-election to his 6th Congressional District seat. Kilmer once again will face Democratic challenger Rebecca Parson of Tacoma, who tilts to the left of Kilmer on the political scale. There are three Republicans in the race: Chris Binns of Port Orchard, Todd A. Bloom of Tacoma and Elizabeth Kreiselmaier of Gig Harbor. Kreiselmaier lost to Kilmer in the 2020 general election.

In the race for 26th Legislative District, incumbent Democratic state Sen. Emily Randall is expected to face a competitive battle against current Republican state Rep. Jesse Young, who has vacated his state seat to challenge Randall. A third candidate, Republican David Crissman of Tacoma, also filed.

Two candidates from Gig Harbor are seeking to replace District 1’s Young: Democrat Adison Richards and Republican Spencer Hutchins.

State Rep. Michelle Caldier, the incumbent Port Orchard Republican holding down the 26th District’s Position 2 seat, has two GOP opponents — Rachel Harter of Gig Harbor and Oran Root of Port Orchard. Also running is Democrat Matt Macklin of Port Orchard.

The race to replace District 3 Kitsap County Commissioner Ed Wolfe will be crowded. Three Republicans — Axel Strakeljahn of Seabeck, Jeff Wallis of Bremerton and Josh Hinman of Silverdale — filed. Two Democrats also filed — Katie Walters of Silverdale and Leiyomi Preciado Lagdameo of Bremerton.

Incumbent Democrat Phil Cook of Silverdale is running unopposed for assessor. For auditor, Democratic incumbent Paul Andrews will face Republican Mike Simpson. Running unopposed for county clerk is incumbent Democrat David T. Lewis III of Port Orchard. Just one candidate, Democratic incumbent Chad M. Enright of Silverdale, filed for the prosecuting attorney.

Incumbent John Gese of Port Orchard, a Democrat who was appointed to become head of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, will face Rick Kuss of Seabeck, a Republican, in the primary.

Two Democrats — incumbent Meredith R. Green of Poulsbo and Pete Boissonneau of Port Orchard — will compete for the county treasurer’s position.

The sole District Court Judge Department 2 candidate is incumbent Jeffrey J. Jahns of Port Orchard. Kevin P. Kelly of Port Orchard also is unopposed for Department 4. But in the Department 3 race, Stan Glisson of Bremerton and Shane R. Seaman of Poulsbo will compete in the general election. In the Department 4 race, incumbent Kevin P. Kelly of Port Orchard is running unopposed.

If no more than two candidates file for the District Court judge seats, no primary is held for that race, and the candidates will be on the General Election ballot.
