King’s high marks
The Bainbridge Island City Council gave high marks to city manager Blair King for his first performance evaluation.
King started with the city in May 2021.
Mayor Joe Deets said, “Blair regularly meets individually with councilmembers, which allows him to understand each of our interests and positions. I believe that a solid foundation for teamwork has been established.”
Deputy Mayor Clarence Moriwaki added, “In his short tenure as our city manager, his career in municipal administration, community relations, political experience and approachable demeanor have raised the overall level of professionalism and image for the city.”
The evaluation included ratings for 10 areas of performance in a variety of topics such as fiscal management and community relations. Overall, the council gave King a score of 4.63 out of a possible 5 points. His highest score 4.93 was in “Citizen Relations,” where the council praise his efforts of keeping the public informed and for being responsive.
In the area of specific feedback, the council asked for clarification of the communication protocol with department directors and other staff, mentioned the need for improvements in the planning process and encouraged King to continue to focus on the city’s priorities of climate change, transportation and housing.
Orchestra concert
The Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a two night, outdoor concert at The Manor House Sept. 22-23.
For the first time since COVID-19 arrived in March 2020, the full orchestra will perform at Lynwood Center.
The concert will feature romantic works by Strauss, Bizet, Tchaikovsky and more.
Gabriela Garza is a Mexican conductor living in the United Statesa. She is on her second
season as music director of the Poulsbo Community Orchestra. She is the guest conductor for this event.

BI concert
Ranger and the Re-Arrangers will perform Hot Club Swing music at The Ravine on Bainbridge Island from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 25. Admission is by donation.
Tea, tacos and ice cream will be available for purchase. The location is 450 Winslow Way E.
