Schools survey
Bainbridge Island Schools District wants to make sure community members have the information they need to stay informed about BISD students, schools and district happenings.
BISD seeks community input by taking a brief survey by Oct. 21. The survey links are available at www.bisd303.org/survey.
A lot has changed since BISD last completed a formal communication analysis in 2006 when Myspace was the #1 website and the iPhone hadn’t yet been released.
If you have any questions, contact Erin Bischoff at ebischoff@bisd303.org or 206-780-1081.
Get volunteers
Bainbridge Community Foundation has launched a new Volunteer on Bainbridge Facebook page to connect volunteers to nonprofits.
Check it out at www.facebook.com/groups/814298632871882. There are 213 members so far.
BCF’s State of the Sector Report says volunteerism is down 70 percent since the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also says the largest barrier for nonprofits is connecting with volunteers for opportunities in the community.
Performance in BI
Hedwig and the Angry Inch will be performed through Oct. 24 live at Bainbridge Cinemas.
The show is for anyone who felt life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.
The funny story is performed by Jordan Jackson as Hedwig in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine backed by Yitzhak (Olivia Lee) and the band The Angry Inch.
Hedwig Schmidt is an East German rock goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation.
Tickets are $30 at bainbridgeperformingarts.org.
Blues guitar
Keith Scott, a Chicago Blues guitarist, will be performing a free concert at Eleven Winery in Bainbridge Island at 2 p.m. Nov. 13.

Free shuttle
The Inn at Pleasant Beach has launched its own complimentary shuttle service.
Shuttles run Wednesdays through Sundays from 2-10 p.m.
It will pick up and drop off guests at the ferry or in Winslow. And it will drive patrons home from Joe’s Restaurant or the Marketplace to anywhere on Bainbridge Island. Inn guests can add the shuttle to their bookings. Locals can talk to their servers to book a ride.
EV charging
The Bainbridge Island Planning Commission recently OK’d an ordinance on Electric Vehicle charging.
It now advances to the City Council for a final decision. If passed the law would go into effect Jan. 1.
The law would establish minimums for installation of EV charging in parking areas of all new commercial-residential developments.
Fish meeting
Bainbridge Island Fly Fishers are having their first in-person meeting of the year Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Seabold Church.
Following a short business session, there will have a presentation by five members of the club — Eric Thorsted, Larry Tice, Rick Freudenberg and Eric Matthews — who fished Kelly Creek and the North Fork of the Clearwater River in Idaho in September.
After the presentation, audience members are welcome to share notable fishing experiences from the summer.
Bring a fly or a dollar to participate in the raffle for all flies that are put in a basket. For details call Matthews at 206-718.2254 or eric@ericematthews.com.
