Thieves steal cars, property at church on Christmas Eve

It’s hard to imagine any Grinches or Scrooges worse than this. It happened during the Christmas Eve service at Island Church on Sportsman Club Road on Bainbridge Island.

Just before 8 p.m. BI police responded due to a reported stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, they saw a white Subaru with no plates leaving the scene. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle but discontinued in accordance with state law when the driver fled, police said Dec. 30. The vehicle stolen from Silverdale was later found by Kitsap County deputies.

Two other vehicles, a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and a 2019 Toyota Tacoma, were stolen from the church parking lot. The Jeep was later discovered on Agate Pass Road.

An additional four vehicles were entered and property taken.

Following this incident, officers responded to a burglary on Dolphin Dive. The residence belongs to one of the victims of the car prowl. Suspects forced entry into the home and stole unwrapped Christmas packages and other property, including firearms.
