BI woman, 106, dies

Certainly one of the oldest, if not the oldest, people on Bainbridge Island died Dec. 24, 2022.

Peggy O’Brien Fogliano was born Oct. 19, 1916, in Columbus, Neb., and died Dec. 24, 2022, at the age of 106.

She had a home on Rockaway Beach since 1973, but also lived in Port Angeles for 25 years.

A story in the Bainbridge Island Review in 2008 said she had her paintings stacked all over her house and hung in her living room, entryway, stairwell and cottage studio.

She got involved in art at an early age, and got into making ceramic bowls while attending UCLA. Her art also included watercolors, metal and paper. She also taught elementary school for a while.

In an email to the Review, Theora Moench said Fogliano also managed a radio station at a time when few women did that sort of thing.

A story in the Peninsula Daily News in 2012 added that she was involved in art for 40 years, including pen and ink and mixed media. It said she had traveled the world, but her eyesight had been going bad due to macular degeneration.

In that story, her son, Peter, said in a bio he wrote for an art showing that, “there is always a sense of humor, a love of life and a love of people. These are the things of Peggy’s life; indeed, this is Peggy’s life.”

Cook Family Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
