They say all good things must come to an end, and the historical season for the Bainbridge girls basketball team did just that Feb. 10, falling to Silas 37-33.

The Spartans’ defense held its own in the first half, allowing 11 points in the first quarter and eight in the second. However, the offense was one-dimensional with Bella Ramirez scoring six of their only 11 points.

However, the Spartans could not find a second option until the second half. Silas struggled when Bainbridge switched to a zone defense. Yet, McKenna Jacobs and Tyonna Mosely dominated in the key.

On the other hand, Carlyn Moore and Elsa Cajune began to take the load off Ramirez in the third quarter. After outscoring Silas 8-4 in the third, the Spartans trailed 25-19 going into the final eight minutes.

Bainbridge caused several turnovers and converted free throws. Ghadir Ramadan earned a three-point play after making a layup and a free throw to tie the game at 27-27 with four minutes left. Moore nailed three free throws in a row to tie it at 30-30 too.

The Spartans saw its first lead of the game when Ramadan made one free throw to make it 31-30. It looked like the Spartans had the momentum with a minute left. However, the last minute was the longest.

The 60-second sequence began with Silas taking the lead back at 32-31. Faith Jackson of the Rams iced the game slowly by making her first two free throws. Ramirez responded with a couple to cut the lead to one.

After two missed shots and two turnovers, the Spartans were seconds away from their season ending. Jackson nailed four more free throws to widen the gap.

The Spartans ended the season with a 12-10 record and were a couple of wins away from their first state berth in nearly 20 years.
