Bremerton could experience a major boost in tourism this year thanks to a huge increase in cruise ship visits to the city.
The Port of Bremerton announced via a news release March 29 that American Cruise Lines will be returning to the area once again via its American Constellation and American Spirit ships. Cruise ships have become familiar sites for residents, as the cruise line has docked at the Bremerton Marina in years past.
This year, the port announced a total of 46 docking dates spanning from April to November. Communications coordinator Erica Filler said they typically accommodate less than 10 in a year, but talks of identifying the city as a more permanent port of call have proved to be successful.
“We have been working for a few years to identify Bremerton as a desirable port of call with American Cruise Lines during their Puget Sound cruises, and we look forward to helping make this a memorable stop for all their passengers visiting our local waters,” said James Weaver, director of marine facilities.
Port CEO Jim Rothlin added: “We are fortunate to have such a great opportunity to expand the number of cruise dockings at the Bremerton Marina this summer. These visitors come from all over the country to learn about our community and support our local businesses.”
The release goes on to explain the cruise line will be offering passengers a variety of activities to partake in while docked in Bremerton, including local museums and outdoor attractions. The port will also be providing passengers with walking maps of Bremerton.
Port commissioner Cary Bozeman said, “We at the Port of Bremerton see the value in bringing communities together and are excited to see how the additional cruise ships this year benefits everyone.”
