The Bainbridge seniors led the Spartans to a 6-0 victory over the Kingston Buccaneers on the final home game of their careers April 25.
“It was a great send-off, and the crowd was amazing,” senior Damoni McKenna-Greenawalt said.
Five of the six goals were by Spartan seniors. Five minutes into the game, Zach Schramling scored on a header off a corner kick. “It feels great scoring one last time in front of the home crowd before districts,” Schramling said. “It’s the best-case scenario.”
Greenawalt added the seniors took advantage of every opportunity they had against the Bucs. “I’m happy for them because they are not really the goal scorers,” McKenna-Greenawalt said.
Seniors Carlos Field-Bennett assisted the second goal to Jacob Jacobsen to make it 2-0 within the first 15 minutes. Sophomore August Peterson scored halfway through the first half.
Kingston tried to respond with their first shot on goal with seven minutes left in the half.
In the first few minutes of the second half, Abe O’Connell deked the goalie and scored on an open net. In addition, Field-Bennett scored on a cross from Finley Reynolds.
Schramling ended the Spartans run with his second goal from a free kick in the 31st minute. “It was a bigger game and was nice to fill the stands and take care of business on the field,” Schramling said.
