The Bainbridge Spartans had a case of the Mondays at the beginning of the game against North Mason May 1.

But they responded late to capture an 11-1 victory in six innings.

“Historically, Mondays have not been Bainbridge baseball’s best days,” coach Geoff Brown said. “They got going and got the Mondays out of the way.”

The Spartans struck in the bottom of the first inning when Eddie Bignold scored McCrea Curfman on a sacrifice fly. However, North Mason responded with a solo home run by Leland Lopes.

Although the Spartans had several more chances than the Bulldogs, they were unable to capitalize. “The common theme is to finish the job,” Brown said. “These guys battled and embraced everything.”

The Spartan bats woke up in the fourth inning when Will Rohrbacher hit a double to start a rally. A few batters later, Jack Grant hit a 2 RBI single into the outfield. Kyler Miller reached third base on the next at-bat because of a North Mason error and later scored from Coco Black’s blooper to the outfield. By the time the Spartan bats were finished, the lead expanded to 6-1.

In the fifth inning, Spartan Duncan Bos headlined four more runs with a 2 RBI single to right field.

The Spartans’ final run came when Bignold came home on a passed ball, with the game ending on the mercy rule.
