MLK event

A MLK Celebration Seeding the Dream will take place from 2:30-5 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.

The event has been youth-developed and will be youth-led.

Participants will examine the contemporary impact of Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy and how he inspired a new generation of youth leaders, activists and artists.

Centered around modern-day dreams of social justice, the event will feature poetry, dance, oratory presentations, music, singing and community voices.

Groups involved include: Kitsap ERACE; Living Arts Cultural Heritage Project; the city; Catalyst School; BI Multicultural Advisory Center; and more.

Sunday bus delay

Sunday bus service will return to Poulsbo in March, but not to Bainbridge Island.

At its most recent meeting, Kitsap Transit executive director John Clauson said that even though the company had exceeded its 2023 hiring goal of 25 new bus drivers, there still is not enough capacity to add more stages of Sunday Service.

Therefore BI will have to wait, along with Silverdale and Port Orchard.

As for when BI might get it, “hopefully before the end of the year,” based on availability of operators, Clauson said.

Dramatic reading

Island Theatre presents a dramatic staged reading of 2 ACROSS: A Comedy of Crosswords and Romance by Jerry Mayer at the Bainbridge Public Library Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 21 at 3 p.m.

Mayer was a writer and producer of numerous TV sitcoms, including “The Facts of Life,” “Bewitched,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” and “Bridget Loves Bernie.”

A man and woman board a San Francisco BART train at 4:30 a.m. They’re alone, and both are doing a crossword. She’s an organized, sensible psychologist. He’s a free-spirited, unemployed ad exec. She’s a crossword pro, he always quits. She wants to be left alone. He can’t stop talking. Opposites in an enclosed space, they argue and flirt, attacking each other’s values while gradually opening to the other’s point of view. Their trip is filled with surprises—for them and for the audience—and as the ride ends, it’s obvious that each of them has been changed.

Admission is by donation with a suggested $5 minimum per person.
