On Friday, January 12th, Douglas Green, a devoted husband, and loving father/grandfather, passed away after complications of a stroke he suffered in August 2023. He was born in Coupeville, WA to Darrell and Earla Green in 1946.
He graduated from Langley High School in 1964, where he was involved in many sports and activities. He attended Central Washington University and earned a degree in Education. He settled in Port Orchard, WA after taking a teaching position at the newly opened Cedar Heights Junior High. He received his Master’s Degree in School Administration from Eastern Washington University. He went on to hold many administrative positions in the South Kitsap School District. He was passionate about education and coaching youth football and basketball.
He retired in 2002 and eventually moved back to Whidbey Island where he loved to spend time with family and friends, going crabbing and geoducking, riding his motorcycle, and gardening. He was always up for any project or adventure that Cam and others presented him with.
His family was the most important thing to him, and he always told his grandchildren how delightful they were. All four were blessed to have the most fun, active, and engaging Papa a kid could ask for!
Doug had an infectious laugh and was always joyful. He made those around him feel welcome and valued. He was quick to share his one-liners known by those close to him as “Dougisms.” He taught those around him the power of kindness, respect, and love. To know Doug was to love him and we all have our specials memories to cherish.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Camilla Green (Clifton); his sister Ardis Grimm (Green); his daughters Amy Green and Haley McCary (Green); sons-in-law Kenneth Russaw and Jim McCary; and his grandchildren, Clyde McCary 11, Isaiah Russaw 10, Jillian McCary 9, and Kasen Russaw 6.
Celebration of Life will be held at Cascadia Meadows (The Little Brown Church) on Whidbey Island on February 4, 2024, at 1:00pm. 7041 Maxwelton Road, Clinton WA.
