All five local high school soccer teams are still in the playoffs with Bainbridge, North Kitsap, Central Kitsap and Klahowya all winning, and Bremerton advancing despite a loss.
Bainbridge
Bainbridge’s soccer team beat Mountain View 2-1 May 7 in a district playoff game.
The Spartans have two chances to reach the state tournament. Their first opportunity is May 9 against Timberline.
Bainbridge scored first within the first 20 minutes of the game. August Peterson found a pass to Finn Reynolds who juked the defenders and goalie on a shot fake. Reynolds tapped it in for the goal.
Although Bainbridge dominated the possession, Mountain View found an opportunity. With a few minutes remaining in the first half, Mountain View crossed a low ball into the box and scored to tie it at 1-1.
Both teams fired a shot off the post within the first few minutes of the second half. However, both shots were cleared by a defender. The Spartans thought they earned a penalty kick in the 55th minute on a handball. However, the referees overturned the call.
With five minutes remaining, Reynolds receives a lob pass from 30 yards away. Reynolds fired after controlling the ball and sent it over the goalie’s head for the winner.
North Kitsap
North Kitsap continues its dominant reign, winning 5-0 against Washington to remain undefeated. Mason Chmielewski scored in the seventh minute with a corner kick header. NK’s next opportunity came in the 15th minute when Harper Sabari received a lob pass before the goal. However, he volleyed the shot wide of the net.
Ethan Peck extended the lead with another corner kick header with seconds remaining in the first half.
In the second half, Pepe DeLuna found a rebound before the goal and tapped it past the goalie. Sabari added to the lead with the fourth goal a minute later.
North Kitsap picked up another goal with 25 minutes remaining.
Bremerton
Franklin Pierce defeated Bremerton 6-0 and picked up its first goal within the first 10 minutes. The Cardinals had a breakaway opportunity and scored with a shot into the upper left corner to make it 1-0.
The Cardinals scored another goal a few minutes later but was called back after an offsides flag was raised. Franklin Pierce sent another through ball that beat the defenders and allowed an easy opportunity to make it 2-0.
The Cardinals found the back of the net on a corner kick as the ball rolled into the bottom right corner to give them a 3-0 lead.
Franklin Pierce capitalized in the final minutes of the first half. After a Bremerton free kick ended as a goal kick for the Cardinals, the squad countered quickly with a few deep passes. The open shot made it 4-0.
Franklin Pierce added a couple of more goals to secure the victory.
Despite the loss, Bremerton returns home May 9 against Sammamish.
Central Kitsap
Central Kitsap advanced to the West Central District 3A title game after defeating Gig Harbor in penalties.
Both teams were tied 1-1 after overtime. The Cougars will play at Auburn Memorial Stadium May 9 against the winner of Spanaway Lake and Silas.
Klahowya
Klahowya earned a state berth after upsetting two-seed Cascade Christian.
The Eagles continue to test their luck, defeating Cascade Christian 2-1, 5-4 on penalty kicks. Klahowya won its first district game against East Jefferson 3-2, 5-3 on penalties.
Klahowya will play in the West Central District 3 1A title game May 9 at 7 p.m. against the winner of Bellevue Christian and Vashon Island.
