Bainbridge Island firefighters descended en masse on the Island Village Shopping Center on High School Road Wednesday morning after a strange smell was reported just before 10 a.m. May 6.
The source of the smell was first thought to have come from an electrical panel at the Rite Aid, but firefighters worked their way from business to business in the shopping center after it appeared the smell may have originated elsewhere.
The only smoke found was from a barbecue food smoker behind the new Plate & Pint restaurant.
The emergency response — which included two engines, a command vehicle and an aid unit — drew curious looks from morning shoppers but firefighters quickly cleared the scene.
