Kitsap swimmers find success at league meets

Victories in the 100-yard freestyle, 100 backstroke and 400-free relay helped the Bainbridge Spartans keep up with North Kitsap in the Olympic League Divisional Championships Oct. 26.

Junior Allie Paulson-Houser touched the wall in the 100 free just in time to secure a district qualifying time of 1 minute, 3.03 seconds, followed by NK senior Nadia Barry in second and Bainbridge senior Cate Everett. Freshmen Anika Nelson and Camden Brown went one and two in the 100 back with district qualifying times of 1:10.33 and 1:11.17. The Spartans’ 400 free relay made up of seniors Maya Geddes, Sara Kriegh and Piper Majors and sophomore Lena Everett took first place with a state qualifying time of 3:45.96.

NK’s 400 free team consisting of juniors Aubrey Hedstrom, Carly Yates and Ashley Husmoe and sophomore Shosho McLain also finished as state qualifiers with a second-place time of 3:51.61.

The Vikings and Spartans would see similar results in the 200-medley and 200-free relays, both schools finishing with state times in both races.
