An 18-year-old woman died from injuries suffered in a one-car collision on Monday.
Sydnee Cummings, of Bainbridge Island, died after her car went down an embankment on Miller Road.
A witness said she heard a loud bang about 5:10 p.m. Other witnesses said it appeared the car had drifted off the roadway and into the trees. Her car ran over some trees before coming to a stop among a group of trees down an embankment.
Due to the damage sustained to the car, firefighters could not remove Cummings and had to cut the roof off of the car to extract her, which took 35 minutes.
Cummings was flown to Harborview Hospital in Seattle with major injuries. She was pronounced dead at 8 p.m.
Investigators are still working on the cause of the crash. Anyone who has information about the collision is advised to contact the Bainbridge Island Police Department at 842-5211.
