Doris Gall, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Island Health and Rehabilitation on Bainbridge Island. She was 96.
Doris was born Sept. 16, 1919 in Tuscarawas, Ohio to Mancel F. and Helen G. (Kopp) Johnson.
She graduated from Tuscarawas High School and Ohio University with high honors.
Doris taught school in Ohio. She also worked at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, during World War II.
She married Walter Gall in 1948. They met when he took her for her first airplane ride during Air Education Week at Ohio University in 1947.
In 1950, the couple spent nine weeks as national forest fire lookouts in Idaho and learned to love the Northwest. After living in other states, where she was a Girl Scout leader and active in other volunteer organizations, Doris and Walter moved to Bainbridge Island in 1972.
Doris is survived by her daughter Cheryl of Shoshone, Idaho and her son, Barry and his family of Snohomish. She is also survived by her brother Keith Johnson of New Philadelphia, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mancel and Helen Johnson, her brother Leslie Johnson of New Philadelphia, brother William Johnson of Bradenton, Florida, and sister Caroline Sartin of Kittering, Ohio.
