Just in time for Halloween, the sixth annual Poultry Pageant Chicken Costume Contest saw chickens in costumes ranging from Jedi knights and world leaders to dinosaurs and deceased celebrities on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Town Square.
The pageant, sponsored by the farmers market and the Bainbridge 4-H Club, featured nearly a dozen chickens in various costumes competing for first place in several categories, including “best Halloween theme,” “best political costume,” “best delicious/food theme” and “best environmentally friendly theme.”
4-H chicken specialists were also on hand to answer questions about raising and caring for chickens.
Despite a government shutdown and a national budget crisis, President Obama’s popularity among the American people was again solidified when a chicken dressed as him was voted the winner of the political costume category, although it bears mentioning that the “Elvis for Congress” chicken was a close second.
The tiny chicken dressed as a jack-o’-lantern, complete with a fake candle on its back, swept two separate categories: best Halloween and best environmentally friendly costume.
The tasty contestant dressed as a chicken pot pie won the best delicious/food category.
