The Bainbridge Island City Council will discuss transportation impact fees at this week’s meeting.

In recent weeks, the council has expressed interest in learning more about the fees to help mitigate transportations troubles that arise from development projects.

Victor Salemann from the consulting firm, David Evans Associates, is an expert on impact fees and will give a presentation at the meeting.

Council members will also be able to ask Salemann clarification questions on the fees, the process for developing one and what they can or can’t accomplish through having impact fees.

The state of Washington allows impact fee as charges to developers to help offset transportation improvements that are spurred by new development projects.

The council will begin discussion on transportation impact fees at the start of the “staff intensive” portion of the agenda, which opens at 7:10 p.m.

The city council meets at 7 p.m. every Wednesday in city hall.
