Kol Medina has filed as a candidate late Monday for the North Ward, District 2 Bainbridge city council seat.
Medina’s entry into the race creates the potential for a Primary Election battle for the seat.
Susan D. Bergen, 56, a landscape architect, filed as a candidate in the race earlier Monday.
And on Saturday, Bainbridge activist Ron Peltier announced his candidacy on the steps of city hall surrounded by a group of more than a dozen supporters.
Peltier has not yet filed as a candidate.
A carpenter, Peltier is better known as one of the opponents of the controversial Visconsi shopping center project on High School Road at Highway 305.
On Saturday, he said took multiple shots at city staff over the project, and said they acted more like representatives of the development company than city planners.
Peltier, 64, is one of the founders of Islanders for Responsible Development, the grassroots group that unsuccessfully fought to have the Visconsi development rejected by the city’s hearing examiner.
“I am running for council because I see our island headed in the wrong direction,” Peltier said in his announcement.
“A misguided imperative to accommodate more and more growth is gradually destroying our island’s special character and undermining the long-term viability of its natural resources. Most Bainbridge Islanders see this, and see that our city council has failed to correct a pro-development culture at [the city],” he added.
Medina, 41, is the executive director of the Kitsap Community Foundation and the former executive director of the West Sound Wildlife Shelter. He announced a run for the North Ward position on Friday.
Mayor Anne Blair, the incumbent North Ward council member, has said she will not seek re-election.
