Schools get clean audit

Bainbridge Island School District has received a clean bill of health from the Washington State Auditor’s Office, following an audit of its accountability for public resources, compliance with state law, and financial services.

Results from the May audit were released earlier this week.

A report said district policies and procedures were in compliance with state laws and that “Internal controls were adequate to safeguard public assets.”

The audit examined a number of district policies, including those for public meetings, expenditures, contracts, procurement, payroll, transportation reporting and budget compliance.

The audit reviewed financial transactions from Sept. 1, 2005, to Aug. 31 2007, and found they met federal requirements.

The audit did report that the school’s methods for reporting school bus ridership had been out of compliance with state law, but said the problem was being resolved

Financial audits of the district are performed annually. Public resources accountability and legal compliance are are audited every other year.
