The Senate, a Seattle band, will bring their “face-melting acoustic music” to the next free Concert in the Park on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

Grab the kids, a picnic meal and enjoy an evening of music and dance. Free concerts will be held at Battle Point Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 20.

Parking is available off Arrow Point Drive; follow the signs.

The Senate is a trio is made up of Oliver Franklin, a rock-and roll guitarist with a classical background, African drummer-turned guitarist Nick Drummond, and jazz bassist Andrew Pulkrabek.

The Senate’s songs range from simple and introspective to driving and chaotic; a stylistic breadth mirrored in lyrics about sex, death, power, love, war and drinking in space.

The Senate has won opening slots for Everclear, the Paperboys, Vicci Martinez, and Handful of Luvin, and placed first in Washington State University’s 2007 Battle of the Bands.

The band released their first full-length recording, “Live at Solstice,” with a sold-out party at the Triple Door in downtown Seattle in March 2008. The 10-song record, produced by former Nirvana sound engineer Tom Pfaeffle, also includes a DVD of the band’s live show, recorded in September 2007 at Café Solstice in Seattle’s University District.

The final two concerts at Battle Point Park are Wednesday, Aug. 13 and Wednesday, Aug. 20.
