Six Bainbridge High School students have received regional awards in the 2013 Scholastic Writing Awards Contest, and one Spartan will advance to the national level in the competition.
Four Bainbridge students received honorable mentions.
Zach Mellin, a ninth-grade student, was recognized in the Science Fiction Short Story category.
Abby Leigh, a ninth-grader, won in the Poetry division.
Elly Cowan, also a ninth-grade student, won in the Persuasive Essay category.
McKenzie Scott, an 11th-grader at BHS, also received an honorable mention in the Personal Essay/Memoir category.
Ninth-grader Leah Potter won a silver medal at regionals in Flash Fiction.
Caitlin Williams, a 10th-grader, won a Gold Key Medal in Personal Essay/Memoir for her entry, “Paterphobia,” and will advance to the national level.
The award-winners are all students of BHS English teacher Kim Kooistra, and entered the contest as an extra credit assignment.
