Feast, meet famine.

No one has yet submitted a letter of interest or application for the vacant seat on the board of directors for the Bainbridge Island School District.

District officials have been accepting applications since mid-March in the aftermath of John Tawresey’s resignation from the school board.

Despite a continued call for applicants, no one has formally asked to be considered for the post.

District spokeswoman Pam Keyes said this week that several people have picked up applications, but no one has yet submitted a letter for the position.

Applications for the District 3 seat will be accepted until Friday, April 13.

The school board expects to make an appointment to the seat at its meeting on Thursday, April 26.

By contrast, a vacant position on the board of commissioners for the Bainbridge Island Fire Department has sparked plenty of interest.

Seven islanders have said they would like to serve the department; Teri Dettmer, Dan Morrow, Meghan McKnight, William Biscomb, Paul Topper, James Lagdon and Greg Millerd.

Ed Kaufman, the department’s finance administrator, said the candidates have been invited to this week’s board meeting on Thursday, April 12 for interviews.

Letters have been sent to the candidates that pose two open-ended questions — one that focuses on the view of the role of a fire commissioner, and one about the district’s priorities — and the candidates will get 10 minutes each to give their answers.

Commissioners will make a decision on the appointment at their following meeting on Thursday, April 26.
