BHS takes first in first XC meet

Bang, and they’re off. The Bainbridge High varsity cross country team placed first in both the men’s and women’s categories at the year’s first meet against runners from Cleveland, Roosevelt, Chief Sealth, Seattle Preparatory and West Seattle Thursday, Sept. 18.

The Bainbridge High varsity cross country team placed first in both the men’s and women’s categories at the year’s first meet against runners from Cleveland, Roosevelt, Chief Sealth, Seattle Preparatory and West Seattle Thursday, Sept. 18.

The men’s team placed first with a combined score of 33.

Seattle Prep placed second and West Seattle placed third.

The top three BHS male finishers were Keith Carlson (17:32.98), Ryan Cox (18:01.94) and Johan Griesser (18:18.34).

The women’s team placed first with a combined score of 29.

Roosevelt placed second and Seattle Prep placed third.

The top three BHS female finishers were Naomi Von Ruden (21:14.73), Haylee Derrickson (21:22.68) and Audrey Weaver (21:29.00).

The team raced again on the road Thursday, Sept. 25 against Ballard, Garfield, Ingraham, Rainier Beach, Chief Sealth and the Holy Names/O’Dea combination team. Results were unavailable when the Review went to press.

The team’s only meet at home this season is slated for 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Battle Point Park.
