The Bainbridge Island City Council will discuss putting more bike lanes on North Madison Avenue at this week’s council meeting.
Interim Public Works Director John Cunningham will propose a construction contract for a road project to be considered during next week’s business meeting.
The improvement project is the second phase of bike lane renovations that were completed in 2011 and was brought to the dais under the city’s Capital Improvement Plan.
With Phase Two, about 2,600 feet of asphalt-widened shoulders will be added from Vally Road to Winther Road on North Madison Avenue. Additionally, the improvements will include a ditch and drain realignment.
The project is budgeted at $200,000 for construction, and city staff will plan the design in-house.
The city’s Street Fund will cover $27,000 of the construction costs, and the remaining $173,000 will come from the Surface Transportation Program, a federal grant the city received this year for road improvements.
The city council meets at 7 p.m. every Wednesday.
The council will consider the North Madison Avenue non-motorized improvement project at 7:10 p.m. this Wednesday during the staff intensive portion of the agenda.
