Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SATURDAY, JULY 18

6:32 a.m. Police were called to the ferry terminal for an alleged theft. A 29-year-old woman claimed her boyfriend had stolen her cell phone and wallet from her apartment on the island. She said her license and two debit cards were in the wallet.

Police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath.

She said her boyfriend lived in Seattle, so she was waiting at the terminal to see if he showed up. She claimed the theft had taken place about one hour before, and said he had stolen her stuff because he was mad at her because he thought that she cheated on him the night before.

He got mad and left the apartment, she said.

She was then unable to find the items, though she admitted she did not actually see her boyfriend steal them. She was certain, however, that he took them, because he was mad that she owed him money as well.

The woman did not know the debit card numbers.

Police found the man, 48, walking on Ericksen Avenue less than a half an hour later. He had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his breath.

The man was detained and placed in handcuffs. When advised of the allegations made by the woman, he said he did not steal her things.

He then gave consent for police to search his backpack. The items were not there.

The man was advised that he was free to leave. He told police he was currently homeless.

Police checked the area around where the man was found, but the missing items where not there.
