Quilters block out time for the troops

The Bainbridge Island Modern Quilt Guild gave a demonstration at the Bainbridge Island Art Museum on re-purposing old shirts into quilts during Military Appreciation Day at local museums.

They also sewed blocks for American Hero quilts — a program to give every wounded soldier at a local military hospital a quilt and a hug.

The Northwest Navy Band “Deception Brass” took a break from performing to highlight the quilt program.

The visit helped publicize the upcoming Downtown Bainbridge Quilt Festival on Sept. 13.
