The city of Bainbridge Island is hosting an open house next week to discuss a new connection to the Sound to Olympics Trail off of Highway 305.

The community is invited to help develop alternatives for a separated multi-use trail along Highway 305, between Winlsow Way and High School Road.

At next week’s meeting, city staff and a design consultant will go over the history and context of the Sound to Olympics Trail and the funding and timeline for constructing the new connection.

They will also explain the physical and regulatory constraints of adding the path.

The proposed trail will connect Winslow Way to the non-motorized bridge near Vineyard Lane by a 10- to 12-foot-wide, non-motorized pathway along the highway.

A design will be finalized early next year, with construction beginning by summer 2015.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is funding the engineering, design and construction of the project through a federal grant.

Residents can join the conversation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at city hall.
