Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter:

Tuesday, Dec. 9

4:46 p.m. A 62-year-old Bainbridge woman called 911 to report an attempted identity theft over the Internet.

She was searching a real estate website for housing for a family member and found a home in Port Ludlow listed for $80,000.

She contacted the listed person’s email and got a rental form emailed back. After she filled it out and sent it back, she started getting suspicious emails that asked for birth dates, photos and contact numbers. An officer noted some of the verbiage indicated the person was not in the U.S.

The woman was advised to monitor her credit for any suspicious activity.

Monday, Dec. 8

8:24 a.m. The owner of an orthodontic practice reported a burglary at his dental office in the 11100 block of Fairmont Lane.

He said he left his office at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 and returned at 5 p.m. the next day to find a closet door with a light on. He believed that someone entered the building through a cellar door, then used a ladder to climb up through the floor into a closet.

The closet was later found locked from the inside. Numerous items were taken, including three curing lights valued at $3,000 each; pliers, picks and dental tools valued at $200; and 10 $10 Target gift cards. The gift cards were stolen from a lock box.

The victim suspected the burglary was done by someone who knew the business.
