The Bainbridge Spartans girls junior varsity basketball team rebounded from a loss to South Kitsap late last week with a 38-18 win against North Kitsap Monday.
The Spartans beat the Vikings 38-18 at home.
Kayla Buchmeier led Bainbridge with 11 points against North Kitsap. Fellow Spartan Rosie Brown added nine points and teammate Paulina Bredy chipped in seven.
The win pushed the JV Spartan team to 2-1.
In earlier action against South Kitsap Friday, the Spartans fell to the Wolves 39-26.
Bredy paced Bainbridge with six points.
The Spartans started the season on the road against Bremerton early last week and won 59-13.
Brown had 14 points and 16 rebounds for Bainbridge and led all scorers.
The JV team next plays Central Kitsap on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at home. Tipoff for the JV game is at 5:15 p.m.
The Spartans’ boys JV team started the season with a 58-35 win over Bremerton.
Bainbridge got off to a quick start in the game and led 20-8 after the first quarter.
Dawson Gonwick finished with 10 points and 17 rebounds for the Spartans, and Ben Beatie added 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Spartans lost in a nail-biter against Sumner Saturday, 45-42.
Bainbridge fell into a hole in the second quarter and the team was outscored by Sumner 16-4. The Spartans climbed back into the game in the second half and nearly pulled off the win.
“We shot poorly from the field and had too many turnovers,” noted Spartan JV Coach Henry Guterson.
Jake Philby scored 13 points for Bainbridge in the contest.
The JV team resumes play Tuesday, Dec. 4 against North Kitsap on the road. Game time is 5:15 p.m.
The boys return to face Chief Sealth Friday, Dec. 7 at Bainbridge High.
Friday marks a full day of hoops for Bainbridge.
The boys JV team plays at 3:15 p.m. at the high school, while the boys C team takes on the visiting Seahawks at 3:15 in the Commodore Gym.
The Spartans’ girls JV team plays Chief Sealth at 4:45 p.m. at Bainbridge High, followed by the boys varsity game at 6:15 p.m.
The girls varsity game follows at 8 p.m.
