Bainbridge Island police are investigating the death of a bicyclist Wednesday at Fort Ward Park.

The cyclist died while passing through the park on the island’s south end, and details were initially scarce on the accident.

Terry Lande, executive director of the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District, said he was contacted by police Wednesday about the death, and said he was told it was not related to the park itself.

Police reportedly closed the section of the bike trail between the upper and lower part of the park and the deceased was brought down off the hill on a stretcher.

Emergency responders were not immediately available for comment.
