BIGC does well at lone home meet of season

The Bainbridge Island Gymnastics Club put forth a strong showing at back to back meets Jan. 15 and 16 at Woodward Middle School.

The boys’ team hosted 10 different teams from Washington and Oregon, with the Level 6-9 boys’ team taking second overall.

Bryan Peterson, a senior and a Level 9 gymnast, took first in the floor exercise, vault and parallel bars.

Nathaniel Opalski, a Level 9 gymnast, took first in the vault, second in the rings and fifth in the all-around for the 12-13-year old age bracket. Tim Forro, an elite-level gymnast, finished first in the floor and the vault.

Cole Lewis, a Level 6 gymnast, took first in the floor and third in the rings en route to a third place finish in the all-around in the 8-9-year-old age bracket. Henry Brown took third on the pommel horse and fourth on the high bar with a fifth place finish in the all-around for the 10-11-year-old age bracket. Eric Powell took first in the floor, rings and high bar for the 12 and up age bracket. He took second in the all-around.

Level 5 gymnast Ian Mathews placed 11th in the all-around while Level 5 gymnast Jake Hendrickson took second on the parallel bars and third in the all-around in the 12 and up age bracket.

Abe Muldrow was tenth in the Level 4 all-around with seventh place finishes in the floor and the vault.

The girls’ team hosted seven teams from Washington and Oregon.

The Level 4 girls team took third overall. Sydney Johnson placed fourth in the all-around while Alecia Keifler finished sixth overall in the 6-7-year-old age bracket.

In the 9-year-old age bracket, Keagan Daniels finished third in the all-around while Sarah Jung was seventh. Emma Chee took first in the 10-year-old age bracket while Alyssa Rasmussen was fourth.

The Level 5 team took second overall, with Kati Cooper placing first and Mariko Ronan taking second in the all-around in the 7-8-year-old age bracket. Remi Rosencrans finished second in the 9-year-old age bracket while Morgan Dierickx, Siqi Talley and Mia Bruzzo swept the top three spots, respectively, in the 10-year-old age bracket.

The Level 6 team took third overall, with Jianna Kaufman placing second in the all around.

The Level 7 team had three tumblers place in the top five in the 13-year-old and up age bracket. Miller Shor was first, with Marielle Summers taking third and Vicky Camp placing fifth.

The Level 8 team had two tumblers, Chloe Seferos and Sarah Rice, take first in the all-around in their respective divisions.
