Bainbridge Island is set to begin its repairs of Rockaway Beach Road, which has suffered from erosion and given way to the abutting shoreline bluff.
Work will begin before the month is out and will involve placing a 340-foot-long wall along the beach to prevent the road from further erosion. A geotextile slope stabilization is also part of the work plan and will restore 550 feet of the road.
Rockaway Beach Road will be closed near Creosote Place starting Wednesday, Aug. 21 and continue while work is carried out until the project’s completion in November.
A detour route divert drivers to nearby Taylor Avenue, which will connect to Halls Hill Road. From there, drivers can backtrack to Rockaway Beach Road.
