The Bainbridge girls lacrosse team and defending state champs began their run at another state championship with an overwhelming 18-1 win over Kennedy.

“Fantastic game — great way to start the playoffs,” said Spartan Coach Tami Tommila.

“I was hoping that we would play this well, and I was really, really happy with how they executed our plays. And how they played nice on transition defense,” she said.

Sallie Marx was unstoppable — again. She scored four goals for the Spartans in the contest.

Marx wasn’t the only Spartan to become one with the Kennedy goal. Truman Flynn also nailed the net for four scores for BHS.

Truth be told, Bainbridge had no trouble spreading the offense around. Seven Spartans scored in the contest.

Mo Greason and Sonia Olson added three each; Amy Willerford contributed two; and Paige Brigham and Regan Wortley added one goal each.

Goalkeeper Madeline Stevenson was left as lonely as the Maytag repairman, however, as much of the action occurred on the Lancers’ end of the field. Stevenson finished with just one save.

Bainbridge now advances to play Wenatchee at 7 p.m. Saturday,

May 11 at Bainbridge Stadium.

Tommila said the team looks ready for the matchup against what is largely an unfamiliar foe.

“I thought everyone was present on the field — so they were ready,” she said.

“This game we had a lot of flow. For us, I think it just helps build confidence with this young team — that they know they can do it,” Tommila said.
