Holiday Village returns for season

Dwight Shappell continues to expand upon his handmade Holiday Village at the Bloedel Reserve, now an annual tradition with whimsical trains and exquisite houses filling multiple rooms at the reserve’s Visitor’s Center.

Kids will enjoy taking in every detail — from the tiny bedspreads to the wooden shingles — with a new scavenger hunt that guides them through the exhibit. Adults will be impressed, too, as they admire Shappell’s structures, made entirely out of materials he’s collected, with the exception of paint and glue.

Cider and cookies, plus entrance to the exhibit, open through Jan. 3, are included with admission.

The reserve is at 7571 NE Dolphin Drive and is closed Mondays, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
