Spartans get the job done on a hot, hot day.
REDMOND, WEST SEATTLE – With the weather taking a complete 180 degree turn from the past few months, the Bainbridge fastpitch team overcame it and some tough pitching at the 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament at Marymoor Park in Redmond to make its second straight trip to the 3A state tournament.
They lost a heartbreakng 1-0 decision to Issaquah, but rebounded to defeat Holy Names 8-5.
Despite a season high seven errors, Chelsie Kakela and Brittany Wisner combined to drive in seven runs while Haylee Baker kept the Cougars off balance just enough for the win.
The Spartans then defeated Liberty 9-2 to take the third seed from the district.
Wisner hit a home run and drove in four while Lindsay Willmann threw another one-hitter and struck out 11.
The boys and girls’ 4×400 track relay teams made it by taking a top four spot at the 3A Sea-King District 2 meet at the Southwest Complex in Seattle.
The foursome of Anthony Carter, Austin Hallett, Ian Shiach and Stephen Vassiliadis beat out O’Dea in a photo finish for third place while the quartet of Maddy Sheldon, Lizzy Brackett, Sylvia Stellmacher and Courtney Odell just missed beating out Issaquah for first.
The 3A state fastpitch tournament is next week in Tacoma while Star Track is held in Pasco next week for the last time.
