BAINBRIDGE – Port Angeles raced to first-place wins in eight events at the 30th annual Spartan Relays to walk away as the overall winners in Bainbridge’s big swimming invitational at the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center.

Bainbridge won five events, with two of the victories coming in junior varsity races, during the meet.

The Spartans splashed to first place in the must-win event for Bainbridge, however, the 150-yard innertube relay.

The innertube race is the highlight of the relays for both competitors and spectators alike.

This year, the team of Julia Lapin, Hannah Tonsmann, Cerise Nowjack and Carina Laukaitis crazily kicked their way to first in a time of 2:08.03 — nearly 12 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Sehome.

The Spartans also placed first in the 800-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard JV butterfly relay, and the 400-yard varsity and JV freestyle relay.

Port Angeles was first with a team total of 69, with Bainbridge right behind at 52.

Sehome placed third (35), with Central Kistap in fourth (31), Marysville Pilchuck in fifth (13) and Marysville Getchell in sixth (11).
