To the editor:
BASEBALLERAMA! Meet the Mariner Moose at the Bainbridge Island History Museum May 19.
We are hosting a free event to honor a century of baseball (slow pitch and softball) on the island.
Baseball began here with “neighborhood teams” (e.g. Pleasant Beach Team, Fletcher Bay Team, Fort Ward Team etc.) about 1910 and has been wildly popular since. Everyone is welcome.
There will be a large display of baseball memorabilia and artifacts. If you played on a team in the past, get your team together and come – in uniform if possible! There will be prizes for the bygone team with the most players present, the oldest player to come and more. Where, but on the grounds of the BI History Museum, would you expect to run into the ghost or two of legendary players such as Babe Ruth?
Hotdogs, popcorn, Crackerjacks, peanuts, pop, beer and wine will also be available to purchase. Please call Chuck Callaham (842-4779), Teddy Rinonos (451-4270), Ron McCarthy (842-6735) or Tom Thatcher (780-8800) for more details.
Come and celebrate America’s favorite pastime with us.
