It’s been decades since World War II, but recently, someone has been dropping bombs at Battle Point Park.

The target: toilets.

Three incidents of toilet bombings at the park’s bathrooms have occurred nearly every weekend this month. The vandalism started sometime around June 2.

Bainbridge Island Police are investigating. The first explosive is believed to have been a “seal bomb,” an explosive device used to frighten seals away from docks, fisheries or other man-made areas.

The second is believed to have been a simple firecracker.

Both initial bombing incidents destroyed the toilets. When the Battle Point bathrooms were closed for repairs, portable bathrooms were set up as a temporary replacement.

But even with the bathrooms locked for repairs, the vandals were not deterred and shifted their aim to the portable bathrooms for their last bombing. It is believed that they again used a firecracker to destroy the portable bathroom.

The Battle Point bathrooms are up and running once again, according to parks officials, but the Bainbridge Island Police Department is still trying to find the culprits.

Battle Point Park has suffered of a slew of vandalism in recent months.

The park has recently been targeted with graffiti and earlier this year, many young trees were found to have been girdled with copper wire.
