The Bainbridge High teacher accused of inappropriate conduct with a teenage student will remain on paid leave until a police investigation is complaint, District Superintendent Faith Chapel said.
Bainbridge High officials alerted parents late Wednesday that a teacher at BHS had been placed on administrative leave following allegations that surfaced Tuesday afternoon of improper conduct between the teacher and the student.
District officials would not elaborate on the allegations, or provide any details on how long ago the inappropriate conduct occurred or the nature of the complaint.
Chapel, who could not comment on the investigation or talk about the teacher because it is a personnel issue, said putting an employee on paid administrative leave is the standard approach when such allegations are raised.
School officials contacted the Bainbridge Island Police Department after learning of the allegations Tuesday, which began an investigation into the allegations Wednesday.
Police Chief Matthew Hamner said the investigation was in its early stages, and police would not comment on what has been learned so far.
Counselors at BHS are available to talk to students who are concerned, school officials said.
