Ferry fares to increase Thursday

Get ready to dig a little deeper for your next ferry ride. Washington State Ferries is reminding travelers on state ferries that a passenger fare increase of 1 percent and a vehicle/driver fare increase of 2.5 percent will go into effect Oct. 1 on all routes.

Washington State Ferries is reminding travelers on state ferries that a passenger fare increase of 1 percent and a vehicle/driver fare increase of 2.5 percent will go into effect Oct. 1 on all routes.

The fare increase is the first part of a two-part increase approved by the Washington State Transportation Commission.

WSF also noted that the single fare vehicle/driver peak season surcharge ends Oct. 1.

The new fare for passengers on the Bainbridge Island-Seattle route, which includes walk-ons, will be $8.10; $4.05 for seniors and youth.

The regular fare for a small vehicle and driver will be $11.25; in the peak season, that rises to $14.30.
