“Gateway Park” is the park being proposed and developed by citizen initiative on the vacant lot at the SW corner of Hwy. 305 and Winslow Way.
The project has support from Rotary and a range of other Bainbridge organizations and volunteers, as well as the lot’s co-owners, the City of Bainbridge Island and Kitsap Transit.
Bainbridge resident Johnpaul Jones is leading the design effort for the citizen steering committee. If you missed the community meeting, you can find out more about the project and provide input at ttp://letsbuildapark.wordpress.com.
The architects will take all the input they receive and synthesize it into a couple of options. They expect to have a second public session where the community can view some potential designs and make additional comments and suggestions. A final design will then be proposed to the owners and the BIMPRD for approval.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer with a ribbon cutting planned for fall.
Bainbridge Island Land Trust President Tom Backer has volunteered the services of the Land Trust (along with the Weed Warriors) to help with the clearing of invasive species from the ravine area of the park property.
