Go deep ‘Into the Woods’
Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum, how many fairy tales can you hum? Starting Friday, Ovation! Musical Theatre brings “Into the Woods” to Bainbridge for a three-weekend run.
Steven Sondheim’s hilarious, humanistic take on fairy tale folly includes most of the best-known favorites including Jack of beanstalk fame, Rapunzel, Cinderella, the Big Bad Wolf and Ms. Riding Hood.
The musical and narrative intertwining are too cleverly complicated to expound on here; instead, catch any of nine performances, Fridays through Sundays July 11-27 at the Bainbridge High School Theatre. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets, $13-$20, are at Winslow Drug, online at www.ovationmtb.com or at 842-0472.
Pirates, meet the dragons
Fantasy and legend take center stage on Friday with the latest crop of BPA Theatre productions.
At 11 a.m., grades 1-2 will present “The Legend of Captain Blye,” filled with far-away ports and bizarre creatures of the sea. At 1:30 p.m., grades 3-4 pick up Blye’s adventures with “The Pirate’s Curse.”
Both shows are free; donations benefit the BPA Theatre School scholarship fund.
Later in the day, grades 5-8 take over with an original production by Artistic Director Steven Fogell. “Dragonsphere: The Awakening” presents chapter one of this futuristic tale of an otherworldly Earth.
“Dragonsphere” runs at 3:30 and 7 p.m. at BPA; tickets are $10.
Call BPA, 842-8569 for tickets and information, or to register for fall classes for grades 1-8.
