JUNE 26
2:03 a.m. An officer stopped a car with one headlight on Wyatt Way near John Adams Lane. An officer contacted the driver, a Bainbridge man, and noted a smell of “weed” in the vehicle, for which the driver said “sorry.” The driver volunteered an Altoids tin which contained a bag containing marijuana and various accessories. The driver admitted the marijuana was his and said he’d last smoked about three hours before. The officer noted that the man’s driving had appeared normal. The officer cited the man for possession of marijuana under 40 grams.
JUNE 27
11:05 a.m. A man was escorted from the Rotary Auction by a security guard after he was seen carrying a partially concealed handgun. After receiving a report, police checked the area for the man but could not locate him.
12:37 p.m. A wood chipper was reported stolen from the Rotary Auction grounds. A woman said she had purchased the Craftsman chipper earlier that day for $75. When she returned to the cashiers’ area to pick up the implement it was missing. No suspects.
JUNE 28
5:29 p.m. A property owner on Dolphin Drive spit in another property owner’s face after argument escalated. The victim of the spitting called 911 to report the incident. Police ascertained that the pair had been in an ongoing property line dispute. A report was forwarded to prosecutors.
3:16 p.m. A resident of a Manitou Park Boulevard care facility went missing from the property and was eventually located in Poulsbo. After receiving a report that the 85-year-old man had walked away from the property, police initiated an extensive search of the area. Several residents reported seeing the man and one said they had given him a ride to the ferry terminal. Soon the man’s grandaughter called to report that the man had arrived at her apartment in Poulsbo. Police interviewed the man, who seemed lucid. The man told police that he did not want to return to the care facility. He said he paid his bills and could do as he pleased, reminding them that he lived in America and not Russia. He said he often visited Poulsbo by bus or taxi. The man was transported to Harrison Hospital for a welfare check.
JUNE 29
9:10 a.m. A watermelon was thrown through a back window of the Teen Center on High School Road. A skateboard was also found in the glass shards. No suspects.
5:51 p.m. A naked man was reported walking through a Parkview Drive neighborhood with a number of children playing in the area. Several people yelled at the subject to get his attention but he continued his stroll toward Fort Ward Hill Road. Shortly after another citizen called 911 to report that the nudist had just walked through the state park parking lot. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
JUNE 30
11:35 a.m. A half-dozen eggs were thrown at a house on Manitou Beach Drive overnight, causing $5,000 in damage to the finish on the house. No suspects.
JULY 1
6:55 a.m. A small amount of cash was stolen from a truck parked at a home on Pleasant Beach Drive overnight. A Giant road bike valued at $300 was also stolen from outside the same residence. No suspects.
JULY 2
8:25 p.m. The Bainbridge driver of a Honda Pilot towing a boat and trailer cut a corner to close while turning onto Norman Place. The trailer cut across a curb and broke off a pedestrian sign. The SUV, boat and trailer all had expired registration. The driver could not produce valid insurance. He was cited.
JULY 4
1:57 a.m. An officer stopped a car at Manitou Beach Drive and North Madison Avenue after clocking it driving 35 mph in a 25 mph zone. The driver was also seen talking on her cell phone. The driver, a Bainbridge woman, smelled strongly of intoxicants when contacted but said she had only drunk two drinks. She agreed to a portable breath test which registered her blood alcohol content at 0.120. Following field sobriety tests, the woman was arrested for driving under the influence. A passenger in the car offered to drive it to the office but instead pulled forward and lodged the car in a ditch. A tow truck was called.
2:30 a.m. A Honda Accord was traveling at 45 mph in a 25 mph zone when it veered off the roadway of Arrow Point Loop. The car hit a mailbox, bounced off two boulders and knocked down a 30-foot tree before coming to a stop. Police found 102 feet of slide marks on the roadway. The driver, a Tacoma man, left the scene on foot without reporting the incident. He was later found by police and cited with negligent driving.
